How to clean a Menstrual/Period cup?
Hygienic way to clean menstrual/period cup
The menstrual cup should be cleaned before and after your cycle and after emptying. One should keep the menstrual cup after the water is boiled for about 5 minutes before the beginning of your cycle and same should be followed at the end of your cycle. In between washing it with normal clean water is good enough.
If you are travelling and you don't have access to clean water, one can use packaged drinking water to clean the menstrual cup.
The four holes under the rim of your menstrual cup are of vital importance as they create the seal that secures the cup in place. You can also soak the cup in warm water for a few minutes then use a spare soft toothbrush for this. We do not recommend a pin or tooth pick as it may cause damage to the cup.
Silicone is odor-free, but if your cup does develop an odor, you can use a gentle soap (avoid scented/fragranced/peppermint etc, vinegar, alcohol, dish washing soap, baking soda, hand sanitizer, baking soda, bleach or any harsh chemicals) to clean the cup. Remember no detergent or harsh soap and harsh scrubbing is needed.
